Get Into Character

Most people who have read my writing know that one of my biggest challenges is writing succinctly. I can often overexplain things, so when it comes time to edit, I find myself having to cut sentences and chapters down mercilessly. That is why I’ve challenged myself to introduce the main characters of Sirens to you all within a crisp three sentences per character.

Michael

Michael Ken is the main character of the story and is often described around work at RightMark as the Next Big Thing. His highly anticipated game, Sirens, is in the final stages, and as he begins testing it for tweaks, he realizes that it is better than expected. But when some of the game’s flaws eventually become apparent, no one wants to listen to the creator’s warnings.

Jon

Jon Way is Michael’s coworker and Shayna’s husband. He adores his job and wife, though he often falls short in many aspects of his work and marriage. Jon’s decision to choose his own misguided personal success will have consequences that affect not just him but many others.

Shayna

Shayna Way is a feminist to her core. That’s why when she hears what the Sirens video game is intended to do, she’s appalled. Every time her worries are brought up, she is dismissed even by her husband, Jon, but perhaps she was the only one seeing things clearly all along.

Bella

Bella is the woman of Michael’s dreams. She lives to please and enjoys the small things in life, like cooking and good company. Her biggest goal is to make Michael’s visits to her home satisfactory, and she would do anything or become anyone it takes to achieve this.

James

James Sherrod is the president of RightMark, the company that Michael and Jon work at. He is eager to get the Sirens video game on the market quickly, whatever the cost. James may be very successful, but this might be a price not even he can justify.

Of course, there are many other characters who add to Sirens. This story is told from multiple perspectives to highlight the dueling ideologies of the main characters and to outline how the choices of a few greedy men can have an incredible, lasting impact.
